Renowned Supply Chain Management Thought-Leader, John Coyle, PhD, Joins CombineNet

that John J. Coyle, PhD, professor emeritus of supply chain management and director
of corporate relations for the Center for Supply Chain Research for Smeal College
of Business at Penn State University, has joined its business advisory board of
directors.

Dr. Coyle has contributed to over 100 publications in the areas of supply chain
and logistics. He has presented papers on these same topics at the Council of Logistics
Management, the American Marketing Association, the National Academy of Sciences,
the Transportation Research Forum, and the Southern Marketing Association. He is
co-author of two best selling textbooks, The Management of Business Logistics, and
Transportation. He was also editor of the Journal of Business Logistics from 1990
to 1996, and has served on the editorial review board of the Journal of Supply Chain
Management.
Dr. Coyle has consulted and provided in-house educational programs for over 300
companies and government agencies. At Penn State University, he participated in
executive education programs as both lecturer and faculty director. He has been
a lecturer on the Supply Chain Management program, the National Industrial Distributors
program, and the Materials Management - Physical Distribution program, and has served
as faculty director of the Supply Chain Management program and the U.S. Marine Corp.'s
Best Practices seminar. He currently serves on several corporate advisory boards.
Since joining Penn State in 1961, Dr. Coyle has played an active role in developing
its logistics and transportation program. He has been involved in a major program
of instructional innovation involving television-taped modules. Several Fortune
500 companies and other universities are using the latest editions of the tapes.
In 1991, Dr. Coyle received the Council of Logistics Management's top honorthe Distinguished
Service award, which is emblematic of "an individual who has made a significant
contribution to the art and science of logistics." In 2000, he received the
Lion's Paw Medal from Penn State for his contributions in teaching, research and
service.
